![]() ![]() ![]() An SSD probably won't change the KP situation. Most senior contributors here recommend Crucial or Other World Computing for Mac RAM The more common lower tier for either brand has been troublesome. Kingston and Corsair has two tiers of RAM. PNY RAM used to be fine in pre-2006 PowerMacs (G5 and older) but has been iffy in Intel Macs. ![]() If you see any identifiable vendor or make on the RAM modules, please tell us what you find. The idea is that, in presence of mixed RAM, you want to test each type by itself.Īlso use System Information that will be in your Utilities folder to check the RAM speeds: If you see, say, two different sets of stickers, take out the RAM and sort by markings/vendor. Physically look at your RAM modules to see if they are marked with different manufacturers' of vendor stickers. However the most common cause seems to be incompatible RAM. Kernel panics ("KP" for short) can be hardware or software related. I'll ask the Hosts to move you to the Mac Pro forum. I want to find out if its a hardware problem or a software related one, is there an easy way of testing this? Which hardware component is most likely to cause it, do you think a new SSD hard-drive could solve it? Is there a way to put the computer under controlled stress to see if it crashes when it tries to use all the RAM at the same time? Any ideas which might help me pin down the problem would be of great help! The error Is not at all something that occurs every time i use it and seems to be pretty hard to predict when it's going to happen. It's on its latest possible OS, 10.11 El Capitan and its just a clean install with this software on it. The only issue is that I've sometimes experienced kernel panic shutdown when working on, sometimes not particularly big, projects in the audio software. I'm using it for music making in the software REAPER which is a pretty lightweight program and It's been handling it really well. It works smoothly and is fast with no issues on everything I've tried.
